Before applying the cream, wash the area to be treated and dry it well. Place the cream on the affected area and the surrounding skin. Treatment should occur twice daily, e.g. at night and in the morning. What to Expect
Following trying this treatment for a number of weeks, I think that this cream functions well. It managed to clear away the visible signs of Athlete’s Foot in just 5 or 6 days and the itching and burning were completely gone a day or so afterwards. I continued using it afterwards as it said, waiting more than a week before I stopped it and there was no sign of re-infection! The cream did not smell bad like other creams can and it did not sting when it was applied. It was easy to put on although it left my feet feeling a bit greasy, even after it had been rubbed in really well. I also found that the skin on my feet became irritated after a day or so of using it.
Keep an Eye Out
A number of clear warnings and lists are included in the leaflet that accompanies Daktarin Aktiv Athlete’s Foot Cream. The leaflet lists the uncommon side effects, which affect less than 1 in 100 people. These possible effects are a burning sensation on the skin, irritation at the application site, burning at the application site, itchiness at the application site, warmth at the application site, reactions at the application site, inflammation of the skin or skin discolouration. Other side effects listed that occur in an unknown number of people are intolerance, rash, skin irritation, itchiness, redness or a severe allergic reaction including swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat. You should not use Daktarin Aktiv Cream if you previously had a bad reaction to any of the product’s ingredients before. If you take oral anticoagulants like Warfarin then you should talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using this product. Benzoic acid and butylated hyrdroxyanisole can cause irritation to your skin. You have to make sure you wash your hands to prevent a spread of infection and to ensure that the cream does not end up in your eyes. If symptoms persist or worsen, see your doctor.
Manufacturer’s Commitment
As MacNeil does not retail this product, it does not have a returns policy or guarantee. Each retailer will have its own conditions that determine whether a product can be returned or not and so whether you get a guarantee or not, and what a guarantee might entail, entirely depends on where you buy it. This cream has been popularly received by many consumers as research into various reviews has shown. Customers praised the product’s effectiveness.
The Bottom Line
Daktarin Aktiv Cream has some obvious pros, namely that it in fact does its job. It successfully manages to kill an Athlete’s Foot infection and stop bacterial conditions beginning in the affected area. It is also excellent value as it is cheaper than similar products and is able to be used for all age groups. Lastly, Daktarin Aktiv Cream has been well received so it seems to be a product worth buying. However, this product is not without its cons. The most unfortunate thing about this product is its side effects. It contains at least two irritants that must cause irritation to a number of individuals in order for it to be worth noting by the manufacturer. Those with sensitive skin are likely to be particularly prone to skin irritation and reactions. There are also a number of people who will be affected by a host of other side effects as listed above and possibly more that have not be commonly reported. Perhaps the most inconvenient thing about this product is the twice daily application. It is easy to have a shower in the morning and apply the cream afterwards but it is quite tiresome having to wash your feet a second time later in the day to put the cream on again. A cream that could be applied only once per day would be handier. Finally, there is no assurance that you will be able to return the product if it proves to be unsatisfactory at meeting your needs.
